The Facts

The Numbers Tell a Challenging Story – and Create a World of Opportunity

It’s no secret that there is an ever-increasing worldwide demand for energy. This leads to increased prices, as supply cannot keep up with demand. This results in price instability, which makes it difficult for the average building owner to predict and pay their utility costs.

There are 111 million households in the United States.

  • The total money spent for energy expenditures in those households is $201 billion.
  • Heating and cooling account for 56% of residential energy consumption, according to the Department of Energy.

According to the United States Green Building Counsel (USGBC), in the US alone, buildings account for:

  • 72% of electricity consumption
  • 39% of energy use
  • 38% of all carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions
  • 40% of raw material use
  • 30% of waste output (136 million tons annually)
  • 14% of drinkable water consumption
